Botanist Collection

Tasked with expanding our gold and white Botanist Pottery Collection into lacquer, I turned to antique specimen etchings for inspiration. In college, I was very interested in curiosity cabinets and entomology. I took a class on butterfly pinning as well, so I had spent a fair amount of time studying their beautiful wings. Using illustrations from antique natural history books, I collaged the compositions to spread out from a central point and fill the surface entirely. To bring these etchings into a contemporary design context, I recolored some of the etchings and made the ground color electric turquoise. The composition on the backgammon lid was rendered in glass beads for use as wall art and a holiday stocking. The backgammon set was launched as a Neiman Marcus 2021 Holiday Exclusive.
